Hello again

I Had to improve again our software!

Iīm doing this work because my client want to change some dishes inside the column.
This dishes will be build in other factory, the problem is that, this columns have 30 years old and my client is afraid that the columns have any deformation and this new dishes donīt fit in the columns.

I upgrade my software to give me a Excel file with the deformation on each cross section for the radius Project.
I have to prepare a dxf file with only the cross sections and the software will calculate a new center with only the 3d points of each cross section (the alignment that I give before may not be exactly the same for each cross section) I give to the software the project radius ( in this case 3.67m) and the software will divide the circle in 32 parts ( I can chose how many parts i Iwant), final give me a excel file with the 32 points with difference (mm) to the radius project.

This is a very fast process and very useful for the client.

You can see here:
http://fotos.sapo.pt/zhSvqbieEzvOnuRUZGAL?a=3

I will upgrade the software to do this work in spheres or other objects

Posted: Thu Mar 06, 2008 7:58 am Post subject: 3S Cross Sections - Part 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello all!

We improve our software to create cross sections in colums,
to save time cleaning the 3d points clouds and more.

When we do the scanners we have to clean stairs..pipes..and all the objects we donīt want in our cross sections.

With this software we only need to give the file 3d points cloud, the alignment, (this alignment must be near the center of our colum and grow up on Z value, and a minor radius, higher radius (example: If our colum have a Project radius of 3.67m I will put minor radius=3.62m and higher radius=3.72m) the sofware will catch all the 3d points between this 2 radius.
I give the distaces of the cross sections that I want, and the software create a dxf file with the all the cross Sections separed by layers (the layer name is the Z value).

Extras:

- Have all the extras that I mencioned on my first message.
- The software give me the distace if the column is inclinated.

Hello everyone!
My Company developed a sotware to do Cross Sections 3D and 2D for Tunnels and more!
We have the sotware Leica Cyclone but all the Cross Sections created with this sofware, the 3d Polylines are broken.

We use a HDS 3000 for a Tunnel with 100m.
We have to create 200 Cross Sections (Intervals of 0.5m)
The software first were developed to use the cross sections from the cyclone and unify the 3d points or the 3d Polyines to a 3d polyline closed.
But still takes a long time to remove the cross sections (dxf file) of cyclone
We had to improve, now we can only use the 3d points cloud and the alignment and the software do the rest!

Extras:

1 - We can save much time doing the cross sections

2 - We can convert all the 3d Polylines to 2d Polylines (Better viewing for the client)

3- When we do the Scanners and the scanner canīt reach all area the sotware will create another 3d line and show where has no 3d points (We can choose the tolerance).

4 - The sofware can do a interpolation of 3cm and 3cm (we can chose another measure) on the 3d polyline, so we will have a 3d Polyline closed with 3d points of 3cm in 3cm.
This is very useful if the scanner unable to reach any part of the tunnel or if we have mutch noise in the 3d points Cloud

You can see this on:

On behalf of the Laser Scanning Forum and its existing members, it is our pleasure to invite you to join a new forum.

    www.laserscanning.org.uk

We are hoping this forum will become a vital source of information for the technology and attract members from all over the world to discuss the topic of 3d laser scanning and all it has to offer.

Even when first introduced, all the major benefits of this technology were immediately apparent to the surveying industry. Surveyors were instantly impressed with the speed at which the equipment captured 3D data. Complex 3D environments are captured faster than alternative techniques.

The potential of laser scanning for saving time and money together with its ability to enhance the design process and reduce data collection errors makes it an attractive alternative to traditional data collection techniques. This latest technology offers many great advantages over traditional surveying methods.

If there's enough people interested in this as a product, we would commercialize it as we have done with Pointools 4 Rhino, a plug-in to Rhinocerous that allows you to do the same thing.

If this is something you want to happen, drop me a line, if I get enough response I'll put it in the pipeline!

[Technical Help] scanning 900' across water

We have Lieca 3000 scanner which we used to scan the shoreline across a lake from a pier dock approx. 950' away. I know that this is pushing the limits for recieving any data at that distance, but we did get quit a few points and enough to do what the task required. When we went back the next day to continue we were unable to get any data. The weather conditions were very similar, and no settings were changed from the previous day. Does water effect the scanning process? Does lighting effect the reflectivity of an object? Any help/advise would be helpful.

All I did is import AutoCAD model (created by 3Dipsos) into SketchUp, texture it there and load in Earth. Looks very nice.
Google.PointCloud could be very interesting.

Hi Tom

Yes I have seen people using sketchup to create models, using Cloudworx to generate simple sections to imported into sketchup to then be modeled. I think there are some people looking at importing pointclouds directly in to Sketchup. Now Sketchup is owned by Google we could have Google Earth/pointcloud.
